Roy S. Wetherington, 80, of Tifton and formerly of Valdosta died Thursday, November 16, 2017 at his residence. He was born on February 8, 1937 in Berrien County, GA to the late M. C. Wetherington, Sr. and Vera Taylor Wetherington. Mr. Wetherington was a retired school teacher. He taught in public schools for thirty seven years and at Lowndes High School for thirty of those years. He was a published writer. Mr. Wetherington served in the United States Army Reserves, was a member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta and Tifton. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Valdosta and was a Gideon.
Mr. Wetherington is survived by his wife, Brenda D. Wetherington of Tifton, son and daughter in law, Stephen and Paula C. Wetherington, granddaughter, Melanie T. Wetherington, brother and sister in law, Remer and Maxine Wetherington, sister in law, Christine Wetherington, all of Valdosta and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Roy Sullivan Wetherington, Jr., his parents, three brothers, M. C., Ronald and Charles, sister, Evelyn Wilson, sisters in law, Hazel and Dorothy and brother in law, Benny Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Brushy Creek Cemetery near Sparks, GA. The family will receive friends from one until two p. m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to your favorite charity.
