Ronald L. (Ron) Thompson, 74, of Valdosta, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his home after a short illness.
He was born May 25, 1941, in Jacksonville, FL, a son of the late Rufus and Elizabeth Cooner Thompson. Ron was a faithful member of Redland Baptist Church and had occasionally attended Ousley Baptist Church. He had retired from John T. Friis Company as a Foreman, after thirty-five years. Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Pat Thompson of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald L. Thompson, Jr. and Mary Jane of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Gwenda Gard and Heath of Indiana; two step-daughters, Tracey Walker Falagan and husband Morris of Jacksonville, FL, and Sheree O'Connor and husband Donald of Naylor; fourteen grandchildren, Ronald Lee Thompson III, Amanda Lee Thompson, Bo Bright, Trisha Bright, Cole Gard, George Beckham, Sheena Phillips, Brent Player, Mandi Walker Brett, Danny Padgett, Elizabeth Delk, Hunter Delk, Jessica Croft and Donald O'Connor III; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Becky Walker; and a brother, George (Buddy) Thompson.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Redland Baptist Church, with Rev. Jay Watkins and Dr. Clyde Stokes officiating. Interment will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery.
