Ronald J (Rj) Bennett

Ronald J. (R. J.) Bennett, 80, of Dasher died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born on November 20th, 1936 in Lake City, Florida to the late Irland J. and Pearl Wetherington Bennett and had lived in this area most of his life. Mr. Bennett was a member of Airport Church of Christ and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway as an engineer with forty three years of service. He loved his grandchildren, playing cards with his close friends, and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Betty Jean Bennett of Dasher; son and daughter in law, Greg and Marie Bennett, daughter and son in law, Sherry and Mike McDowell all of Lake Park; his grandchildren, Jerad and Trixie Bennett of Lake Park, Brittany and Justin Poore of Perry, FL, Broc and Dana McDowell of Valdosta, Kevin and Kayla McDowell of Hahira, Matthew McDowell of Lake Park, Whitney and Will Taylor, Garrod Sandlin all of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Ethan Bennett, MaKenley Bennett and Kellan Bennett all of Lake Park, Grayson Poore, Lawson Poore both of Perry, FL, Wellsley Taylor, Paxton McDowell both of Valdosta; brother and sister in law, Robert and Henri Bennett of Charleston, SC; sister and brother in law, Pam and Tim Baker of Atlanta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Bennett and a sister, Earnestine Bennett.
Funeral services will be held at 4pm, Sunday, February 5, 2017 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Mike Johnson and Mr. John Klimko officiating.
