Ronald Everett Clanton

July 2, 1936 — May 17, 2017

Ronald Everett Clanton, 80, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Born in Cook County on July 2, 1936, he was the son of the late Sarah Cowart and Bura Jones Clanton. He graduated from Cook County High School and in 1955 he joined the U.S. Army. In the early 1960's Mr. Clanton reconnected with Molcie Nell Barker, with whom he had graduated from Cook High and they were married in 1963. Molcie toured with Mr. Clanton for the duration of his military career, serving in Germany, Hawaii and several other states until his retirement in 1975. He utilized his military telecommunications skills to work with Mediacom for the next 20 years. An avid fisherman, he loved talking politics and sports with family and friends. He was a member of Ousley Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Vicki and Frank Davidson of Valdosta; sister, June (Robert) Kalesavich of Connecticut, brothers, Robert (Janice) Clanton of Sylvester, Don Clanton of Wilmington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Mandi Davidson of Valdosta, Jonathan and Jesse Davidson of Memphis, Tennessee, Will Davidson of Gainesville, Garrett Clanton and fiancé, Shawnee Johnson of Valdosta, Marissa and Todd Johnson, Lindsey Clanton and Jacob Clanton of Valdosta; five greatgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Clanton was preceded in death by his wife, Molcie Nell Clanton, a son, Jeffrey Clanton and a sister, Bebe Arant.
Funeral services for Mr. Clanton will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Clyde Stokes will officiate. Military Honors and burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Veterans Administration or to the American Heart Association.
