Roger Gordon Croft, "Jay Clark"

March 5, 1939 — May 24, 2015

Roger Gordon Croft " Jay Clark " , 76, of Valdosta, passed away at Langdale Hospice House on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, he was the son of the late Jackson Bartow Croft and the late Dean Rogers Croft Tillman. He grew up in Ojus, Florida and Hollywood, Florida. At the age of 14 he moved to Georgia with his mother and sister. He attended Cook High School in Adel. Roger started his radio career as a DJ in Adel in 1955 and retired after 47 years of having fun and getting paid to sit and run his mouth. He loved the old days of radio, when playing 78 and 45 rpm records was the standard for the industry. For many years Roger was the play-by- play voice of the Valdosta Wildcats. He was also famously known for announcing stock car races at local area dirt tracks. Roger enjoyed fishing, stock cars, classic automobiles and family.
Survivors are his wife of 34 years, Ann Croft of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Lisa and Keith Hodge of Valdosta; son, Mark Croft of Adel; sons and daughters in law, Jay and Lisa Wood of Valdosta, Bryan and Robin Wood of St. Augustine, Florida; daughter, Jennifer Croft of Valdosta; grandchildren, David and Rachel Enfinger, Danielle and Brian Gibbs, Tory Croft of Valdosta, Emily Wood of Orlando, Florida, Gabby Croft, Logan McLeod, Jacob McLeod of Valdosta, MacKenzi Croft, Morgan Croft of Adel; great grandchildren, Evan Castor, Lacey Castor, Luke Castor, Brennan Gibbs of Valdosta; nephew, John Russell Deverger of Darrien. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Deverger and his step father, Jesse "Papa" Tillman.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Berlin, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Haven at donations@valdostahaven.org or to Hopes and Dreams Riding Facility, Inc. 4600 Knights Ferry Road, Quitman, GA 31643.
