Robert Samuel Archibald Killgore, 91, of Valdosta, died after a short illness at his residence on Wednesday July 2, 2008. Born on October 13, 1917 in Tallapoosa, GA, and was a resident of Valdosta for 85 years, he was the son of the late Florence and Ike Killgore, Sr. Mr. Killgore served in the Georgia National Guard from 1934 until 1938 and he worked with Southern Railroad for 38 years. He was a member of Azalea F&AM Masonic Lodge, Shriners – York Rite, Scottish Rite and Hasan Shrine Temple and he had been a Mason for over 60 years. He was the Drum Major for Hasan Oriental Band for many years and was a charter member of the Round Table at the Gold Plate Restaurant. Mr. Killgore was a member of New Harvest United Methodist Church
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Killgore, Jr. of Valdosta, James Frederick and Diane Killgore of Lakeland, William Freddy and Phyllis Killgore of Valdosta; grandchildren, Robin and Phillip Vickery of Lake Park, Jim and Melissa Killgore, Kim Killgore and special friend, Chance Black all of Hahira, Will Killgore and his fiancé, Maggie Isler of Atlanta, Leigh Ellen and Lee Marshall of Jupiter, FL, Tony Watson of Brunswick, Missy and Bryan Mullican of Lakeland; great grandchildren, Regan Taylor of Lake Park, MacKensie Killgore and Jud Killgore, both of Hahira, John Tyler and Brock Vickery, both of Lake Park; several loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Killgore was preceded in death by his wife, Verba Lee Killgore, brother, Isaac Killgore, Jr., sisters, Inez Wages and Pauline Rykard.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. A.H. "Skip" Van Nus officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 3, 2008 from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia or the Shriners' Crippled Childrens' Hospital.
