Robert Ray (Bob) Rowell

April 4, 1932 — June 27, 2016

Robert Ray (Bob) Rowell, 84, of Valdosta, died on Monday, June 27, 2016, at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Leighton, Alabama, on April 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Wheeler and Bonnie Elizabeth Vandiver Rowell. Bob attended Russellville High School where he played basketball. After graduation he joined the Navy for a brief tour during the Korean Conflict. Following his tour in the Navy he moved to Valdosta and attended Barbering School, became licensed and barbered for 25 years. In the late 1970's Bob went to work for Roadway where he worked on the dock and drove trucks for 16 years. Bob then retired from Roadway and returned to his first career, barbering. He truly loved cutting hair and the opportunities it allowed for visiting with folks. He was a lifelong, avid fan of the game of Basketball. He loved attending games and watching his daughter and granddaughters play. He also enjoyed fishing with his wife and friends whenever he could. Bob was an active member of Forrest Park Church of Christ. He led the singing and sang in the choral groups for many funerals.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Casie (Tid) Rowell of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Rhonda and Richard Barr of Shady Shores, TX; two granddaughters and their spouses, Ashlee and Jesse Olvera of Abilene, TX, Kelsee and Nathan Bobrowski of Tacoma, WA; a great granddaughter, Marlee Olvera of Abilene, TX; a niece and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law, Joe & Lucy Rowell, brothers in law and sisters in law, Bill & Martha Boyd, Sam & Mildred Boyd.

A celebration of Mr. Rowell's life will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. Rick Hazelip and Mr. Richard Barr will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 -8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
