Robert Percell Smith

Robert Percell Smith, 83, of Cocoa, Florida died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Hahira after lengthy illness. He was born in Donaldson, Tennessee on June 27, 1928 to the late William R. and Zella Hix Smith and had lived in Cocoa, Florida since 1962. Mr. Smith was a member of the Clearlake Baptist Church in Cocoa since 1964 where he had taught Sunday School and was a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lowndes County. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, fishing and reading. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Air Force having been stationed at Moody Air Force Base. He retired as an electrician from Disney after twenty five years of service and had worked at the Kennedy Space Center.

Survivors include the love of his life for 59 years, Mildred Strawder Smith of Cocoa, Fla., his children to whom he was the best Dad, Virginia Keckley of Hahira, Margaret (Phil) Asche of Kissimmee, Fla. and Charles Smith of Lobeville, TN., 7-grandchildren, 5-great grandchildren, brothers in law and sisters in law, Loran and Paula Strawder of Germany, June and LaDon Strawder of Ray City, Bobby and Sherrill Strawder of Lake City, Fla., Hazel Strawder of Hahira, Doris Strawder of Crescent City, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Carroll Smith, parents in law, Charlie and Cora Strawder, two brothers in law, Charlie Mack Strawder and Mark Strawder and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the chapel of Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Schappaugh and Mr. John Beville officiating.
