Robert Lee "Bobby" Bray, 80, of Valdosta died Friday, September 24, 2010 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 9, 1930 in Valdosta to the late Preston Hayes and Mary Lee Dowling Bray. He attended the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Dasher Bible School in 1949. Mr. Bray was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and also served in the Reserves. He was a Valdosta Police Officer and a member of the original motorcycle squad from 1953-1958. Mr. Bray owned and operated Bray's Curb Store and BBQ Restaurant on North Ashley Street for a number of years and before retiring he was a self employed small business owner. Mr. Bray was a member of the Ocean Pond Fishing Club and enjoyed many happy years of fishing and boating trips to the Gulf with his family. He enjoyed wood working as a hobby and his greatest joy and devotion was to his family. Mr. Bray was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ann Peace Bray of Valdosta, two daughters and sons in law, Beth and Ronnie Bearden of Ball Ground, GA. Leigh and Eddie Grantham of Valdosta, grandchildren, Ron and Tracey Bearden, Wendi and Corey Buckner all of Ball Ground, Chuck Culpepper of Valdosta currently attending UGA at Athens and Brayden Grantham of Valdosta, great grandson, Brandon Bearden and great granddaughter, Kaylee Anne Buckner all of Ball Ground, step great granddaughters, Hannah Bearden and Caitlyn Darby, brothers in law and sisters in law, Hollis Peace and the late Shirley Peace, Madlyn and Ed Hightower, Elaine Peace and the late Mack Peace all of Valdosta, many special nieces, nephews and other relatives in the area. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Lee Bray, Jr. in 1959.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday, September 26, 2010 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Bryan Jarvis and Mr. Evans McMullen officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
