Robert Jerome Mathis, Sr., of Ray City, died on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Tift Regional Hospital. Born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 7, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Mathis and Charlie Ethel Nash Mathis.
Robert loved family reunions, spending time with family, and he especially loved his grandchildren. He loved the Christmas season and dressing as Santa Claus to the delight of his grandchildren. He was fascinated with haunted houses and enjoyed auto racing. Robert took pleasure in riding his tractor.
Survivors are his sons, Robert J. Mathis Jr. of Ray City, Timothy Martin Mathis (Brandi) of Forsyth, Scott Schofill (Lauri) of Hahira; grandchildren, Cameron Storm Mathis (Brittany) of Hahira, Brittany Lesser (Brett) of Arizona, Pierce Mathis, Olivia Mathis of Forsyth, Brooklyn Mathis, Braelyn Mathis of Hahira; brothers and sisters, James Clark (Sandra) of Valdosta, Jerry Clark (Lisa Sheppard) of Lake Park, Anne Mann of Pensacola, Florida; he was preceded in death by his parents, a special aunt, Ollie Nash Clark, and his siblings, Jan Walker, Joan Clark, and Judy Clark.
A graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Cat Creek Cemetery. Brother Stanley Luke will officiate. Martin/McLane Funeral Home is serving the Mathis family.
