Robert Clayton (R.C.) Long, 80, of Lake Park died after a brief illness on Monday, January 7, 2008 at his residence. Born on January 6, 1928 in Hawkinsville, he was the son of Henry C. and Ionia Long. He was a worker all his life, he worked for over 35 years at the Strickland Cotton Mill as a maintenance mechanic, worked for the City of Valdosta for 12 years and for Wal-Mart for 10 years. Mr. Long loved to dance and danced frequently at the VFW and the Senior Center.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Betty Long of Lake Park and Roger Long of Troupeville; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Joyce Long of Perry; sister, Anna Ruth Long of Macon; grandchildren and their spouses, Tonya and Donn Duval of Bonaire, Tana and Jimmy Lee of Charleston, SC, Regina and Brian Jones of Lake Park, Bradford Long, Christen and Dusty Potter all of Lake City, FL, Melissa Long of Fayetteville, NC; eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mable Sirmans Long; and two brothers, Ovis E. Long and Murl Long.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie Scarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family is very grateful to Grace Hospice for their care during this time.
