Robert Charles Alexander

February 19, 1919 — February 15, 2006

Robert Charles Alexander, 81 of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center after a good life. Born on April 30, 1924 in Shanghai China, he was the son of the late Robert Malone and Charles Jasper Botsford Alexander. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was in the 3rd wave that landed at Omaha Beach during the D Day invasion of Normandy. Mr. Alexander was a graduate of Texas A & M with a degree in Chemical Engineering and while there was a member of Tau Beta Pi. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed vacations to Cape Cod and his volunteer work at South Georgia Regional Library and Lowndes County Board of Elections. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors are his wife, Sally Alexander of Valdosta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Alexander and Stephen Walrath of Sandy Hook, CT, Jean Dale Alexander of Absecon, NJ; grandchildren, Scott Alexander Walrath of Nashville, TN, Mark Stephan Walrath and Craig Ryan Walrath both of Sandy Hook, CT and three nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with The Rev. Lee Shafer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
