Robert Burie Zipperer, 77, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Valdosta on July 4, 1946 to the late Samuel Leonodis Zipperer and Mary Montez Zipperer (Weeks) and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Mr. Zipperer was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his service, he began working at Georgia Power Company and retired after 45 years of dedicated service as a meter specialist. Mr. Zipperer was also a co-owner and operator of CDR Electric Company with his friends and co-workers. Mr. Zipperer was known for being an extremely hard worker, but more importantly, he was a loving husband, dad, and papa. He enjoyed everything about living and working on his farm with his wife. He made faith a priority and was a member of Francis Lake Baptist Church. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and sharing his faith.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Merrie Zipperer (Nobles) of Valdosta; his three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Kevin Thomas of Valdosta, Jessica and Jeffery Godwin of Lake Park, and Anna and Craig Willis of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Emily and Taylor Slocumb, Hannah Rowland, Ella Godwin, and Evan and Eliza Willis; his great-grandchildren, Ruby and Clover Roberts; a sister, Janet Pennington of Atlanta and a brother and sister-in-law, Sammy and Ann Zipperer of Athens; two nephews, Joe Pennington and Sam Zipperer; and his dog, Zelda Faye, whom he lovingly referred to as his “sugar dog.” He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Harley Pennington, his nephew Michael Zipperer, and his dog, Charlie.
Services for Robert Burie Zipperer will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Francis Lake Baptist Church with Reverend Eldridge Lyons officiating. The burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Francis Lake Baptist Church.
