Robert (Bob) Mackey, 73, of Valdosta died at his residence on Monday, March 26, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the late Ernest and Mary Hercules Mackey, he worked in the container industry and was retired from the Federal Packaging Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Mackey was also a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Martins Ferry, Ohio. Mr. Mackey had been a resident of Valdosta since 1994 and had been a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Koch of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Thomas and Paula Mackey and Jeffery and Rhonda Mackey all of Reidsville, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Chuck McConn of Bridgeport, Ohio; four step-children, Aaron and Jane Rice of Douglasville, Ga., Frankie and Dorothy Rice of Hahira, Steve and Bonnie Rice of Hiram, Ga., and Lynn Dupree of Nashville, Ga.; eighteen grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert Koon of Wheeling, W.V. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Elizabeth Mackey, a son, Timothy Dean Mackey, and sister, Elsie Koon.
A memorial service for Bob Mackey will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Carroll Joye officiating.
