Robert Banks Anderson, Jr.

Robert Banks Anderson, Jr., 72, of Valdosta, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Mr. Anderson was born April 28, 1935 in Bristol, VA, the eldest son of the late Robert Banks Anderson, Sr. and Miriam Mixson Anderson. He was a graduate of Valdosta High School and King College in Bristol, TN.

Mr. Anderson was active in the local and state Jaycees where he served several offices. He also served as chairman of the board for Valwood School and the Boys and Girls Club of Valdosta. He supported the local Red Cross chapter in a number of capacities including initiating the Blood Bank for this area. A lover of history, Mr. Anderson had served for a number of years as the treasurer for the Clan Anderson Society of the East Coast. He had been an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, serving as a teacher, treasurer and Elder until his health failed. He also served on the board of the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. He had been affiliated with Langdale-Willis Insurance and retired from Anderson Insurance Agency which he founded.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his son, Robert Banks (Rob) Anderson, III of Valdosta, and daughter Courtney Crawley of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Ashley Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Josh Anderson, Brody Anderson, Lily Anderson, Frank Crawley, Courtney Crawley, and A.J. Crawley. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Fred and Emily Anderson and John and Sandra Anderson, all of Valdosta; four nephews and one niece, a number of cousins, and a special, devoted friend, Susan Shingler. He was predeceased by his wife, Ernestine (Tootsie) Foy Anderson who died in 1993.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Richard C. Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
