Rita H. Williams

Rita H. Williams, 82, of Valdosta, died on Friday, February 13, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on September 23, 1926, she had made her home in Valdosta for the past 50 years. Mrs. Williams was a Lutheran. A seamstress by trade, she enjoyed knitting, loved to play Bingo and taking care of children. She baby sat for over 20 years and was affectionately know by many children as "Grandma".

Survivors are her daughter, Peggy and husband Rudy Dowling of Valdosta; sons, Jerry Williams of Valdosta, Glenn Williams of Lake Park; grandchildren, Roger and wife Stephanie Dowling of Valdosta, Tammy & husband Chris Lane of Thomasville, Renee and husband Walt Barnett of Houston, Texas, Paul and wife Nicole Williams, Amanda and husband Tom Shapard, Jessica and husband Shannon Baker all of Valdosta; eight great grandchildren, many special friends.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Ron Burkhalter will officiate. Carson McLane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
