Richard H Andrew, "Andy", passed away Monday, April 28 after a glorious 87 years. He was born October 5, 1920 in Omak, Washington to the late Frank Andrew and Victoria Coghill Andrew.
Andy grew up on a homesteaded apple ranch, where his father was a pioneer in the industry. Leaving college at Washington State Univ, he worked the Portland shipyards to help the pre-war effort. He later finished college with a degree in chemical engineering.
During WWII he served as a 1st lieutenant in the US Navy. He travelled the world on the troop transport ship, the SS McCray. While in NYC, he met & married Mary Louise Welton in 1946. They honeymooned for 3 months driving across the country from New York to the state of Washington. Finding work in Southern California, the couple settled and raised 3 children; Carol, Sue and Rick. Andy worked as a chemical sales rep and finally Director of Sales for Wyandotte Chemical Company in Detroit, Michigan. 20 years later he and Lou moved to Lake Park, Georgia, where he started his own specialty chemical company, Universal SCP where son, Rick now runs the business.
Andy was a man of many interests, a lifelong learner, curious about everything. He loved to tinker; making wine, gardening, inventing, building things. He enjoyed boating and was a member, and pasted Commodore of the Valdosta Yacht Club.
He, along with Lou, taught their children to love nature and travel, from the wonderful yearly vacations. They gave them a storybook childhood. Andy and Lou also loved their many friends and loved to entertain. They had a zest for life that was infectious to all those around them and the deep love they shared was apparent to all.
Andy was blessed in life by family and good friends, and was a blessing to all. He was a kind, gentle, loving man who will be dearly missed.
He was a devoted member of the Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church for 31 years, and loved his church family.
A celebration of life will be held at the Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 2. Reverend John Akers will officiate. Friends are invited to visit the family at the family residence, Thursday evening and after the service on Friday.
Andy is survived by his three children, Carol Johnson, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Sue Mosher, Montgomery, Texas and Rick Andrew, Valdosta, Georgia, and three grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Michael Hill and Katie Andrew.
