Richard (Dick) Salter, 83, of Valdosta died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on November 1, 1933 in Griffin, Georgia to the late Benny and Ida Mae Andrews Salter and had lived in Valdosta for forty five years. Mr. Salter retired from the United States Air Force after twenty years of service and seventeen years of Civil Service as a Computer Programmer. He was awarded the Air Force Medal of Commendation. Mr. Salter enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was inducted to the South Georgia Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2008 for meritorious service. He was a member of the Bemiss United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Salter; three stepsons and stepdaughters in law, Ed and Felicia Yarbrough, Kenny and Amy Yarbrough, Bobby and Nikki Yarbrough all of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Zane Hutto of Tampa, FL, Reece (Jacqueline) Yarbrough of Coolidge, GA, Ryan(Aleshia) Yarbrough of Lexington, KY, Kyle Yarbrough of Ft. Bragg, NC, Zack Floyd of Valdosta, Matt (Stephanie) Varnes of Nahunta, GA, Emily Yarbrough of DeKalb, IL, Maddie Yarbrough, Blake Yarbrough both of Valdosta, Chris Salter of Panama City, FL; 6-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his sister, Jean McCall of Barnesville, GA. He was preceded in death by his son, Rick Salter.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Thomas and Rev. Dave Johnson officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1pm until service time at the funeral home.
