Richard Morgan Cowart went home to be with his Lord on September 22, 2024. Richard passed away peacefully at his home, where he was surrounded by his family. He was born on October 19, 1934, in Adel, GA, to the late Thomas Watson Cowart and Pearlie McQuaig Cowart. Richard served two years in the U.S. Army and four years in the Army Reserve. He later worked as a licensed insurance agent, retiring after 36 years.
Richard's love for his family and church family was unwavering. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Glenda Davis Cowart of Valdosta, GA; his daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Lester Parker of Lake Park, GA, Rebecca and Andy Pearson of Lake Park, GA, and Angelia and Brad Purvis of Valdosta, GA; son, Tommy Cowart and Candice Arnold, of Lake Park, GA, step-sons, Steven Browning of Jennings, FL and Dale Browning of Lake Park, GA, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by both his parents; his brothers, Raymond Cowart, Roy Cowart, Juris Cowart, Claude Cowart, Myron Cowart, and T. W. Cowart; his sisters, Madelon Kyle, Clyde Daniels, and Sara Walker; and step-son, James Ray Browning.
Richard was a man of many talents and enjoyed working with his hands, a skill that earned him the reputation of being able to fix anything. His love for woodworking was evident in the beautiful pieces he created. Richard also had a knack for tinkering with his lawnmowers, and his lawn was always immaculate. His skills were not just for personal enjoyment, as he volunteered his time and resources to help build several churches. Richard was a beloved member of the Swilley Hill Church of God, where he played the guitar and was known for his big smile and kind demeanor.
A funeral service for Richard Cowart will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Swilley Hill Church of God in Valdosta, GA, with Reverend Andy Pearson officiating. The interment will follow at Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before services.
