Richard Charles Steltenpohl, Sr., 76 of Valdosta died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at his home. He was born in St. Joseph, MO on June 10, 1938 to the late George William Steltenpohl and Bessie Crockett Steltenpohl. He was in the Air Force for 20 years and later a prison guard. Mr. Steltenpohl was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing, loved his dog Boots and his close family.
Survivors include his wife, Gail McLeod Steltenpohl of Valdosta; his son, Richard Steltenpohl, Jr. of Valdosta; daughter and a son-in-law, Sondra Humes & Dennis Humes of Valdosta; a daughter, Donna Lewis of Fairfax, VA; a son, Bill Steltenpohl of Valdosta; as well as five grandsons, three granddaughters, one great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. He is also survived by two brothers, both from St. Joseph, MO.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Carrol Joye officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 – 11 am at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lowndes County Humane Society, 307 E Jane St. Valdosta, GA 31601.
