Rhonda Dandrea Smith, 59, of Valdosta passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, October 19, 2014 at her residence. She was born on January 8, 1955 to Peter and Laverne Dandrea. The oldest of three sisters, Rhonda spent her childhood living in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Okinawa, Japan. She graduated a year early from Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1972. The family returned to Valdosta following her father's retirement from the Air Force in 1973. Rhonda began her career at South Georgia Medical center in 1975 as a greeter. She went on to become a secretary, pharmaceutical buyer, Director of Materials Management, and retired as Administrative Director of Supply Chain Services in April of 2014 after nearly 40 years of faithful service. During that time Rhonda pursued a degree in Business Administration Management and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Valdosta State University in December of 2002. Her greatest joys were found in cooking, baking, sewing, and spending time with her beloved family. Rhonda was the rock of strength in her family and lived her life with grace and dignity, showing kindness and love to all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jimmy and Kristen (Smith) Ross; parents, Peter and Laverne Dandrea; brother-in-law and sister, Lee and Karen (Dandrea) Smith; nieces and nephews, Jared Smith, Colby and Hailee (Smith) Yates, and Angela Smith. She was preceded in death by her sister, Angela Maria Dandrea.
Services for Rhonda Dandrea Smith will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Bussey officiating. The burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
