Dawes Buckley "Buck" Thomson, 65, of Valdosta, died suddenly at his home on Friday, September 18, 2009. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, on November 3, 1943, he was the son of the late C. Dawes Thomson and Iris Opal Buckley Thomson. Buck graduated with his masters of divinity degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He was a Presbyterian Minister and had pastored churches in Fayetteville, NC, Mobile, AL, Gulf Shores, AL, Warren, AR and Albany, GA prior to moving to Valdosta four years ago. Buck attended First Presbyterian Church, Valdosta, where he sang in the choir, played the piano and until last year had served as interim Pastor. Buck had also served as interim director for the Presbyterian Student Union at VSU. Buck loved to sing and while living in Albany he sang with the Albany Opera. He loved the Lord and he loved people and considered the members of the churches where he served to be members of his extended family.
"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongues but with actions and in truth." I John 3:18
In the words of Carol Thomson Boyer, "Above all Buck Thomson was a man of faith. His faith in God compelled him to love others with a capacity rarely seen. Buck was my oldest brother and was a faithful example to me. As a friend he sheltered many from the storms of life with compassion and encouragement. In everything he did there was love. This is my brother's life."
Survivors include his mother, Iris Thomson of New York; a sister and brother in law, Carol and Dave Boyer of Penfield, NY; two nephews and their spouses, Michael D. & Anna Boyer of Ft. Collins, CO, and Thomas & Karen Boyer of Pittsburg, PA, great nieces and nephews, Sofia, Nathaniel, Eden, Grace and Sam Boyer; and 22 cousins.
