Rev. Willie Joe Coody

Rev. Willie Joe Coody, 80, of Valdosta, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus. Born on January 5, 1928 in Clyattville, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Mattie Zipperer Coody. He was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) and a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was also a retired Methodist minister and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Paula and Bobby Gillis of Cobb, Danny and Mary Jane Coody of Cuthbert, Judy and Donnie Allen of Rincon, Rick and Kim Coody, Rita and Sam Counts all of Union Grove, NC; grandchildren, Leslie "Missy" Swain, Jacob Gillis, Joshua Gillis, Chad Smith, Casey Smith, Clay Coody, Benjie Ray, Maranda Porter, Sabrina Ray, Colbert Counts; twelve great grandchildren. Rev. Coody is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, L.T. and Gladys Coody of Clyattville; sisters and brother-in-law, Maxine Cothran, Lavinia Hammock, Mary Foster, all of Clyattville and Vernita and Claire Fletcher of Lake Park; sister-in-law Mary Frances Coody of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jorene Brown Coody.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Nathan Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
