Rev. William Francis Diamond

July 3, 1941 — May 4, 2013

Rev. William Francis Diamond, 71, of Valdosta died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 3, 1941 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Helen Elizabeth Vogel Diamond and Frank Peron. Rev. Diamond graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962 and received Masters of Divinity in 1967 from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He served as minister of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Forrest Park, Georgia, Reformation Lutheran Church and Ascension Lutheran Church in Savannah. Rev. Diamond organized Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus, Mississippi and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Valdosta. He was instrumental in co-joining Lutheran Church of Our Saviour and St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Albany, Georgia and served as Conference Dean for the Bishop. Rev. Diamond was a former member of the Board for The Haven and currently serving as President of the Board at LARC.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Polly Diamond of Valdosta, two sons and a daughter in law, Gregory Diamond of Valdosta, Martin and Jane Diamond of Nashville, Georgia, three grandchildren, Andrew Diamond, Grace Diamond and Jacob Diamond all of Valdosta, his uncle, Edward Vogel of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joanne Diamond and numerous aunts and uncles.

Memorial services for Rev. William F. Diamond will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3565 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA 31605 with Bishop Julian Gordy, The Very Rev. Dr. Denise Ronn and The Rev. Jay Weldon officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2pm until service time at the church.
