Rev. William E. Wood

Rev. William E. Wood, 70, of Valdosta, went home to the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2018 following a brief illness. He was born on August 21, 1947 in Sutton, West Virginia to the late William Eugene Wood and Mary Bell Wyatt Wood. He was the Pastor for First United Pentecostal Church of Valdosta since 1988. Rev. Wood joined the Navy at age 18 and served for 4 years where he learned the trade of tool and die maker which he worked in for 40 years during which time he also became a minister. He was devoted to his wife of 45 years Peggy Ann Knight Wood, and loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids and church family. Rev. Wood enjoyed motorcycle trips, guns and electronic gadgets of all kinds.
Rev. Wood is survived by his children Venus (Ed) Martin, of Valdosta, Tina (J. M.) Ricks, of Lake Park, and William (Amy) Wood, of Waycross; his grandchildren, Eddie (Brittney) Martin, Matt (Maite) Martin, Bridgette Beasley, Brittany (Jon) Jury, Brooke (Shay) Thomas, Brandy Smith, William (Jamie) Wood, Brandon Wood, Josh Hackett, and Brody Wood; his seventeen great grandchildren; his siblings Sue (Mickey) Lockhart, of Brunswick, and Mary (Lloyd) Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Ann Wood, his parents William and Mary Wood, and his brother John Wood.
A funeral service for Rev. Wood will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Rod Nix and Rev. Kenneth Goff officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
