Rev. Virgil Brooks, 89, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 18, 1924 in Double Springs, AL, a son of the late John Lee and Della Pearl Brock Brooks. Rev. Brooks honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. During his service to the Lord, he Pastored at ten churches in Georgia with the Church of God. He was a member of Azalea City Church of God, and he loved his church and his family, and he enjoyed traveling and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Mrs. Louise Turner Brooks of Valdosta; six sons, Albert L. Brooks and wife Cyndi of St. Augustine, FL, Alvin Brooks of Valdosta, Allan L. Brooks and wife Denise of Nahunta, Franklin J. Brooks of Valdosta, Marvin E. Brooks and wife Tina of Valdosta, and Paul L. Brooks of Valdosta; sixteen grandchildren, Amy Brooks, Amanda Boswell, April Thomas, Nicky Brooks, Jade Parramore, Kerry Waters, David Brooks, Rhonda Corbett, Joseph Brooks, Timothy Brooks, Virginia Southers, Bradley Brooks, Bowen Brooks, Jordan Voigt, Shelby Brooks and Sarah Brooks; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two brothers, Thomas Brooks and wife JoAnn of Brooks County, and Johnny Wilburn Brooks and wife Lillian of Chattanooga, TN.
The Funeral Service for Rev. Brooks will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Azalea City Church of God with Rev. John Owens, Rev. Ellsworth Davis and Rev. Sammy Reaves officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
