Rev. Robert G. Mcgehee

December 29, 1926 — September 3, 2016

Reverend Robert G. McGehee, 89, of Decatur, Alabama, died on Saturday, September 3, 2016, in Decatur. Born in Mansfield, Louisiana on December 29th 1926, "Little Robert" was the youngest of four sons born to Robert Marshall and Wessie Eula McGehee. He was the youngest of 68 first cousins. Early in life Bob committed his life to Jesus Christ. Bob began his colligate studies at LSU and then completed his bachelor degree at Davidson College. While always athletically inclined, Bob lettered in track at both LSU and Davidson. Throughout his life he continued to enjoy a myriad of athletic activities and shared his passion of nature with his children and grandchildren. After LSU, he attended Emory University to complete an M.S. degree in Physics. In Atlanta, he met his beloved wife Corinne Smith McGehee ("Sis") at one of her voice recitals. Bob and Corinne were married in Valdosta, Georgia and lived on to have three beautiful children (Georgia, Mary, and Marshall). Corinne preceded Bob in death in 2009. He pursued his Physics career in Huntsville, Alabama for approximately two years before he was called to a career in Christian ministry, as his father and two other brothers had also done. He attended Austin Theological Seminary, attaining a Master of Divinity and becoming an ordained Presbyterian minister. Reverend McGehee served as a pastor in Mansfield, Louisiana (his birth place), Dallas, Texas, Plainview, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee (where he served as moderator of the Middle Tennessee Presbytery), Birmingham and Muscle Shoals, Alabama. While in Birmingham, at the age of 60, he again changed career direction to become a certified Pastoral Counselor. In 1985, Bob and Corinne made their final move to Decatur, AL where Bob served in different capacities until his retirement from the Presbyterian Church (USA). Bob and Corinne greatly enjoyed being an active part of the St. Andrew Presbyterian church family in Decatur. Bob cherished the joy he found in the shared love of his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his entire life Bob earnestly strove to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and God's love and grace with his family, his community, and all he met. His life was a demonstration of his enduring faith.
