Rev. Auther E. Knight, 90, of Lake Park passed away peacefully to Heaven on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in North Georgia on November 11, 1925 to the late Harvey and Susie Ethel Wilson Knight. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Rev. Knight served as a Pastor of the Freewill Baptist Church having served churches in Thomas County, Brooks County and Lowndes County since 1967. He helped establish Newark Baptist Church in Thomasville. Rev. Knight owned and operated Knight's Used Cars in Valdosta for many years.
Survivors include his six daughters and four sons in law, Christy and Alex Griffin of Hernando, FL, Nina and Greg Jones of Thomasville, GA, Theresa Knight of Tallahassee, FL, Debbie Mays Kolnik and Tim Kolnik of Ballground, GA, Paula Knight, Beth and Ricky Weeks all of Valdosta; twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; his nephew, Marvin Criswell of Thomasville, GA and his niece, Katherine Davis of Barnesville, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Griner Knight; a son in law, Gary Mays and two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10am, Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Justice and Rev. Garvie Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
