Ressie Willene Clanton

RESSIE WILLENE CLANTON, 87, of Valdosta died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on December 12, 1919 in Porterdale, Georgia to the late Uyel and Lena Guthrie Whittle and had lived in Valdosta for the past sixty six years. Mrs. Clanton was a member of the Empire Primitive Baptist Church and retired from Strickland Cotton Mills. She served for many years on the Remerton City Council and enjoyed fishing and her flowers.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter in law, Billy and Willene Clanton, Danny and Carla Clanton all of Valdosta, a daughter and son in law, Grace and Douglas Webb of Houston, TX., numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, one brother and sister in law, Olan B. and Mary Whittle of South Carolina, three sisters and two brothers in law, Hilda and Joseph DuBois of Manchester, NH., Jeanette Courson of Valdosta, Sara and Walt McGee of Sylvester, two sisters in law, Mary Whittle of Washington State and Peggy Clanton of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Clanton and a brother, Hubert Whittle.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, November 2, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Elder Clarke Lee and Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Burial wiil follow in Guthrie Cemetery in Lanier County. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
