Reason Porter, 65, of Valdosta, died suddenly at his residence on Saturday, December 26, 2009. He was born on August 2, 1944 in Coffee County to the late Joseph and Rosa Trowell Porter. He retired after 42 years of service from Winn Dixie as produce manager and was currently working with Mr. B IGA. He was a member of Clyattville First Baptist Church. He enjoyed being with his family and like to do yard work.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald R. and Malyn Porter of Temple, Georgia; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Wayne Smith of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan J. and Michelle Porter also of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Brent and Nikki Porter of Albany, Tabitha Porter of Temple, Georgia, Pamela and Eric Reed of Villa Rica, Celia and Matt Thomas of Valdosta, Michaela Porter of Temple, Alisha Smith, Tyler Rogers, and Travis Porter all of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Zoe Porter, Kylee Thomas, and Cameron Thomas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mildred Stevens, Lenora and Roscoe Miller, and Virginia and Ronnie McLendon; a sister-in-law, Jean Porter all of Douglas; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen McMillian Porter; a brother, Jimmy Porter and a grandson, Tyrus Porter.
Services for Reason Porter will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Bro. Sammy Reaves officiating. The burial will follow in the Lake Park City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
