Raymond (Ray) Lester Williams

Raymond (Ray) Lester Williams, 101, of Valdosta died Sunday, December 20, 2009at Crestwood Nursing Home. He was born on January 16, 1908 in Schenectady, New York to the late George Wurtz and Elizabeth Kirkland Williams and had lived in Valdosta for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and retired from Southern Bell after forty one years of service. Mr. Williams was a Mason and after retirement had worked as a church visitor for Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Lester and Carolyn Williams of Lake Park, a daughter and son in law, Sue and Larry Padgett of Henrico, NC., grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Jill Williams of Valdosta, Andrea and Brent Coleman of Birmingham, Ala., Guy and Teresa Padgett of Clinton, NC, Daryl and Wanda Padgett of Dunn, NC., Dean and Carolyn Padgett of North Charleston, SC., Lori and Jeff Martin of Clinton, NC., Veronica and Felix Izurieta of Cathedral City, Calif., Mary and Benny Fisher of Dunn, NC. Lorayne and Lyndon Lingat of Murrieta, Calif. and Gregory Padgett of Wilmington, NC., 22-great grandchildren and 4-great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen (Kitty) Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Phil West and Rev. Mac Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
