Raymond Hollis Rumph, 73, of Valdosta died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Heritage Healthcare. He was born on February 16, 1939 in Berrien County to the late L. C. and Sally Audrey Simpson Rumph. Mr. Rumph was a retired Captain from the City of Valdosta Fire Department. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1960. Mr. Rumph was a Baptist, a Master Mason, a member of Pineland Bridge Hunting Club and the Echols County Hunting Club. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter.
Mr. Rumph is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Pierce Rumph of Valdosta, three daughters, Subrena Boggs of Valdosta, Sherrie Butler of Douglasville and Heather Powell of Valdosta, one granddaughter, Schuyler Boggs of Valdosta, two brothers and sisters in law, Robert E. and Lois Rumph of Adel, Thomas F. and CeCe Rumph of Valdosta, five sisters and three brothers in law, Jean Davis of Long Beach, MS, Pat Godwin of Valdosta, Barbara and Jake Bodiford of Daphne, AL, Sue and Don Tyner of Adel, Joyce and Bill Ostean of Powder Springs, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Wilma Wylene Rumph.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at three p. m. at the graveside at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Reverend Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow.
