Raymond Edward Sutton, Sr., 86, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020. He was born on December 4, 1933 in Lowndes County to the late O.B. and Lucille Sutton. Raymond was a lifelong resident of Valdosta and attended Valdosta City Schools and Naylor High School. He loved serving people and was retired from forty-five years in men’s clothing including Irvin’s and Ivey’s The Man’s Shop. Raymond was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and was active in several civic organizations including the Valdosta Evening Lions Club, Masons, Shriners and Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife of sixty seven years, Betty Ann Sutton; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Nancy Sutton; grandchildren, Laurie and Denton Dye; a sister, Sarah Blanton; nieces, Katrina Nash, Pam (Tim) Reaves and JoAnn (David) Dolitsky; nephews, Chip Hall and Tim (Sherri) Sutton; and several great nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond E. “Randy” Sutton, Jr.; and a brother, George T. Sutton.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 at two p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Towson and Reverend Jamie Bone officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from five until seven p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
