Raymond Cowart

Raymond S. Cowart, 91, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born on November 18, 1931, in Adel, Georgia to the late Thomas W Cowart and Pearl Smith Cowart and has been a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Cowart was a veteran of the United States Army and had been employed with Lowndes County as a Maintenance Technician. Mr. Cowart had attended Greenwood Baptist Church. He was known to be a hard worker and continued to work, until the last few weeks, at the age of 91. All who knew him also knew that he loved his Red Man chewing tobacco.

Mr. Cowart is survived by his children and their spouses, Jeanne and Roger Fender of Bedford, Texas, Mark S. Cowart of Valdosta, Lynn O’Neal of Adel, Byron and Pam Myers of Valdosta, and Jeffrey and Teresa Myers of Perry, Florida; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey and Karen Fender, Ben and Lindsay Fender, Teresa and John Moon, Jeremy Myers, Barbara and Justin Watts, KayLynn Myers, Paul and Beth Myers, Stacy Ballard, Beth O’Neal, Justin and Melissa Myers, Cameron and Dusty McLeod, Nolan Myers, Tessa and Garrett Allen; twenty four great grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Richard and Glenda Cowart and Roy Cowart as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his two wives, Alma Hughes Cowart and Mary Myers.

Services for Raymond S. Cowart will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Pavilion with Rev. Mike Nelligan officiating. The burial will follow upon the completion of the services in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
