Rayburn H. Wood

RAYBURN H. WOOD, CMSgt. (Ret. USAF), 68, of Valdosta, was released from the bonds of this world after a lengthy illness on Sunday, January 3, 2010, at South Georgia Medical Center.

He was born March 21, 1941 in Perry, FL, the son of Herbert Hughs and Fannie Prine Wood. Mr. Wood passionately loved his country and served in the United States Air Force with pride, retiring in 1989 after thirty years of dedicated service. His last assignment was at Moody Air Force Base in 1981.

Mr. Wood was a member of Southland Church, and he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a very diverse individual who loved everything from NASCAR to theatre.

In addition to his wife of forty-three years, Linda S. Wood, he is survived by four sons, Anthony H. Wood of Las Vegas, NV, Steven H. Wood of Valdosta, Michael H. Wood of Valdosta, and Christopher H. Wood of Pittsburg, PA; one daughter, Traci L. Wood of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell and husband Eric of Thomasville, Austin Wood of Valdosta, Evan Wood of Thomasville, Amanda Wood of Thomasville, and Jacob Wood of Cumming; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson on the way; two sisters, Mary K. McKown of Valdosta, and Susan Yates and husband Glenn of Tallahassee, FL; and one niece. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Wood will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at the Chapel of Martin McLane Funeral Home, Hahira, with Pastor Danny Orozco officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date in Jacksonville National Cemetery. The Wood family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the memorial service.
