Ray Shearer Register

February 13, 1943 — November 13, 2011

Ray Shearer Register, 68, passed into the open arms of his heavenly Father on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on February 13, 1943 in Valdosta to the late G. Troy and Vera Clyde Stallings Register.

A real people person, Ray never met a stranger. His priorities in life were loving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ray City where he had served as deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

Ray was owner of Register Pecan Company and Broker of Register Realty, Inc. He was a 1961 graduate of Valdosta High School and an avid Wildcat fan. He received a degree in Accounting from Valdosta State University and worked in the accounting division of Georgia Power Company until 1977. In 1976, he received a law degree from Atlanta Law School. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He enjoyed studying the history of his family and served as President then Chairman of the Board of the Register Family Association for many years. He was a proud Son of the American Revolution.

Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Brenda Rackley Register; one daughter and son –in-law, Misty and Robert (Bo) Yeargan of Brunswick; two granddaughters, Savannah Rae Rueff of Brunswick and Anna Logan Yeargan of Baxley; one brother and sister-in-law, Ashley and Martha Register of Donalsonville; his in-laws, James and Irene Corbett Rackley of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Terrie and Marvin Head of Douglasville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marsha Rackley of Valdosta; ten nephews, two nieces and numerous great nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Prescott D. Register, G. Troy Register, Jr., Aristeene Register Kelly, Narene Register Sikes, and Rena Register Myddleton.

Funeral services will be held at eleven a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Ray City with entombment at Cat Creek Cemetery. Reverend Robbie Peay and Reverend John Patten will officiate. Mr. Register will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 on Tuesday evening, November 15, 2011 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Ray City Building Fund, P.O.
