Valdosta, GA

Randolph Judson Johnson (Randy), 68, of Valdosta, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Valdosta, Georgia.

Randy was born on January 7, 1956 to George Enoch and Mildred Johnson of Pelham, Georgia. While growing up in Pelham, Randy enjoyed spending time playing outdoor games with his four siblings and friends. He also enjoyed going on church choir tours, playing baseball, working on the tobacco farm for his uncle and later working at the local grocery store. Randy graduated from Pelham Highschool in 1974 as valedictorian.

Randy then attended college at Valdosta State University, where he graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. While in college, he served as the president of his fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon. Following graduation, Randy began his professional career as a Corporate Accountant and Accounting Manager at Gold Kist in Atlanta for seven years. In 1988, Randy moved back to Valdosta and began working at Southern OBGYN Associates. He proudly remained at Southern OBGYN for 38 years as the Manager & CEO. Randy found joy in serving in many organizations, both within his local community and the medical community. Local organizations include the YMCA of Valdosta, Azalea City Kawanis, American Heart Association, Valdosta/Lowndes County March of Dimes, and United Way of Valdosta and Lowndes County. In the medical community, Randy was part of the Medical Group Management Association for nearly 30 years and in 2019 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his commitment to the organization.

Randy’s love for his family and friends was genuine and unwavering. His greatest pride and joy in life was being with his children and grandson, whom he would have done anything in the world for. He was a kind, caring and selfless leader in his workplace and the community. Randy enjoyed spending his free time with his dogs, Cooper and Aubrey, fishing at the lake, going to VSU sporting events, playing golf, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. He found such joy in finding ways to give to others generously and he leaves a lasting impact on those that had the privilege to know him. Randy was a member at Park Avenue Church since 1987 and was a man of great faith, who served the Lord throughout his life.

Randy is survived by his son and daughter in law, Ryan and Nikki Johnson of Roswell, Georgia and his daughter and son in law, Morgan and Denver Franks of Conroe, Texas. He was the very proud grandaddy to his grandson Joel Wallace Franks. He is also survived by three brothers and sister in laws, Terry and Tish Johnson and Jerry and Marti Johnson, all of Valdosta; Gary and Dee Johnson of Spartanburg, South Carolina; one sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Shannon Thompson of Thomasville; 12 nieces and nephews and 14 great- nieces and nephews; and his dear friend Barbara Smolinski of Greensboro, Georgia.
