Ralph Edmond Brown, Sr. (Lt. Col, USAF, Retired) passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born February 13, 1932 in Clyattville, Georgia to the late Robert Ivey Brown, Sr. and Uldene Husbands Brown. Mr. Brown graduated from Valdosta State College in 1952 with a BS degree in Early Childhood Education and a commission in the United States Air Force. He also received a Masters of Education and Education Specialist degree from Valdosta State College. Mr. Brown is predeceased by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Brown competed a 20-year Air Force career at Plattsburgh, AFB, New York, flying the KC-135. Upon retirement, he settled in Valdosta and became an educator in the Lowndes County School System where he finished his 28-year career as Principal of Parker Mathis Elementary. Lt. Col Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church of Valdosta, the Valdosta Chapter of the Military Officers Association, and the Valdosta Chapter of the Order of Daedalians.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilda Scruggs Brown of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Edmond Brown, Jr. and Sherry of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law Monica and George Waskosky of Hahira; grandchildren, Josh Wood of Valdosta and Ryan Wood of Jacksonville, FL, Sasha Waskosky of Hahira and Kristen Waskosky of Cleveland, OH; numerous special nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Services for Lt. Col. Ralph Brown will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Moon officiating. The committal with full military honors will take place at Sunset Hill Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends on the evening of Tuesday, November 15, from 6-8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
