Ralph Cleveland Moore, Sr., 77, of Valdosta, died Monday, July 19, 2010 after a long illness. He was born February 17, 1933 in Douglas, Georgia. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Gay Dollar Moore of Grady County, Georgia and his parents, Rosse and Virda Moore, two sisters, Wilma Harrell and Hazel Fletcher of Moultrie. He is survived by his children, Margarette Moore (Pat) Kelley of Albany, Georgia, Cleve Moore, Katherine Moore, and Richard (Jackie) Moore, all of Valdosta. Mr. Moore is also survived by his brother, Harold (Myrtice) Moore of Brunswick and his sister, Shirley (Carl) Carlton of Moultrie. Mr. Moore had 8 grandchildren; Patrick Kelley, Joseph Kelley, Michael Kelley of Albany; Ellen (John) Marion, Andrew Moore, Emilee Moore, Jennifer Pierce and Krissy Jenkins of Valdosta; two great-grandchildren, Brad Marion and Kaitlyn Marion of Valdosta, many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moore was a small business owner for many years in Valdosta. He began his entrepreneurial ways as a young boy providing newspaper delivery service for the Moultrie Observer. After graduating from Moultrie High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, serving as a hydraulics mechanic. Mr. Moore, upon leaving the Air Force, moved to Valdosta, meeting his wife who was his nurse while a patient at Pineview General Hospital (SGMC). It was also at this time that he began his first small business, Valdosta Generator and Starter Service on South Patterson Street. Over the years he established other small businesses in south Valdosta. Seeing a need for a fast food restaurant for the people living and working in south Valdosta and south Lowndes County, he began his last and most successful business in 1976, The Top Corral, employing young people and single mothers for 30 years. It was with great pride that he was able to provide various services for the people of south Valdosta and south Lowndes County for over 50 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 22, 2010 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
