Raiford Jack Flowers, Sr., 81, of Moultrie, died on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at his home. Born in Moultrie on November 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Nathan Oliver and Ownie Cardin Flowers. Mr. Flowers served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal(EXT), Korean Service Medal(One), and United Nations Service Medal. He was a retired Master Machinist and had worked with Locheed Aircraft Corporation, Rockwell International, Mastercraft, and the Ball Corporation. He was a faithful, loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Ethel Whatley Flowers of Moultrie; a daughter, Brenda Nash Howell and her husband, Walter of Valdosta; a son, Raiford Jack Flowers, Jr., of Dalton; his three grandchildren, Victor Nash and his wife Jennifer of Valdosta, Raiford Jack Flowers III of Dalton, Kody Carl Flowers of Dalton; three great grandchildren; a sister, Lona Mae Thompson of North Carolina; his mother-in-law, Ruby Fitzgerald of Moultrie, and his beloved dog, Boss. Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services for Mr. Flowers will be held today, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at eleven a.m. at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the graveside from ten-thirty a.m. until service time. David Cummings, Pastor of Covenant Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Baptist Church, Mission Point Church, Options Now, all in Valdosta, or the Gideons.
