Rachel Coker Lofton, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024. Born on December 1, 1928, in Lowndes County, Georgia, she was the daughter of Henry and Ida Coker. She graduated from Lake Park High School in 1946 and soon after she began her long career with Southern Bell Telephone Company in June 1946, where she worked for 38 years, retiring as Assistant Manager in the Business Office.
She was an active member in her community, participating in the Quota Club and serving as a member and past president of the Elks Aidmore Auxiliary in Valdosta. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at South Georgia Medical Center, offering her time and care to those in need.
She was active in her exercise classes at the YMCA and enjoyed her many yoga and silver sneaker friends. She also found joy in line dancing and spending time with her many friends in the group. She was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church and the Cyria Sunday School class. Above all, she loved and adored her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Harry Schmidt of Loganville, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Carol Lofton, also of Loganville. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Paige Norris, Jason (Summer) Schmidt; Grant (Brandy) Lofton, as well as seven beloved great grandchildren: Hallie, Tyler and Dylan Schmidt; Taylor and Justin Norris; and Ali and Chase Lofton. She also survived by a special niece Runette Turner, along with several other nieces and nephews.
Rachel was predeceased by her wonderful and loving husband, Jesse Thomas Lofton; her parents; and five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the River Pavilion at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2pm. Mrs. Lofton will be entombed at the Mausoleum at the cemetery.
