Quillian Powell, 76, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at his home after a three ½ year battle with leukemia. Born in Clyattville on January 12, 1945, Quillian was the son of the late Brunner and Evelyn Gaskins Powell. He proudly served in 82nd Airborne with the U.S. Army. He began Quillian Powell Construction in 1987. Married to Marjorie Harrelson in 1965, he was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and his community. He was a member of Lake Park First Baptist Church. A man of many accomplishments, Quillian was a founding member of Drugs Don’t Work in Georgia, recipient of the Sam Walton Business Leader Award in 1998, served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in 2001, and received the 2015 Big Thinker Award through the Chamber. He enjoyed his work and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Margie Powell of Valdosta; children, Sharon Powell and Richard Jackson of Valdosta, Ricky and Donna Powell of Jacksonville, Florida, Greg and Angie Powell of Valdosta; grandchildren, Taylor Hand Spell (Steven) of Valdosta, Josh Powell and fiancé, Hannah Niemeyer, Casey Powell, Caleb Powell, Thomas Powell, Cara Powell;, sisters, Hazel Bowman of Valdosta, Helen Hambrick of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews, fur baby, Cody. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Dalton Powell and sister, Mary Harrelson.
The family would like to thank special caregivers, Daphne, Crystal and the staff of Langdale Hospice for the compassionate and professional care given to Mr. Powell.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Robert Dawson and Reverend Stanley Luke will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be made online at www.mclanecares.com.
