Proctor William (Bill) Stokes, Jr.

Proctor William (Bill) Stokes, Jr., 89 of Valdosta died on Saturday, December 07, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 23, 1923 in Lakeland, Georgia to the late Proctor, Sr. and Naomi Stokes. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII in the Asia/Pacific Theater. He was a retired branch manager for 1st State Bank and Trust and C&S Bank. Mr. Stokes also served as a past president of the Lions Club and he was a member of 1st United Methodist Church. He was loving family man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Lorene Stokes of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Gaile and Michael Williams of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Proctor III (Bill) and Betty Stokes of Jefferson, Georgia; Step-daughters and their spouses, Nancy Gayle and Monte Camps of Montana, Debbie and Ricky Carver of North Carolina and Michelle Wood of Dothan, Alabama; a son-in-law, Larry Johnson of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Cary Williams of Barney, Lori and Brinson Barker of Guatemala, Julie and Jonathan Tomberlin of Valdosta, Pritchard and Nicole Hollowell of Jefferson, Georgia, Lacey and Jeremy Hudson of Lubbock, Texas, Leslie Johnson of Lubbock, Texas, Lindsey and Clint Kovar of Houston, Texas, Alexie Wood, Alex Wood, and Alyssa Wood all of Dothan, Alabama, Monte Camps of Boston, Massachusetts, Lorie and Den Ell, H.R. and Caroline Carver, Emily and Rick Lappin and Mandy Carver all of North Carolina; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Burgess of Stockbridge, Georgia and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Stokes; a daughter, Carol Johnson; a brother, Harry Stokes, and a sister, Kathleen Patrick.

Services for Proctor William (Bill) Stokes, Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the Lakeland City Cemetery in Lakeland, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
