Phyllis Whitaker Greer

After a long and fruitful life, Phyllis Whitaker Greer, 86, died on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Langdale Hospice House. Born in Elkin, North Carolina on July 4, 1923, she spent her early childhood in Waycross, Georgia, and moved to
Valdosta when she was twelve years old.

Mrs. Greer was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Valdosta State College, where she earned a Bachelor or Arts in Education and a Master’s degree in Special
Education. During her twenty-two years of teaching in the Lowndes County school System, many special students experienced her loving encouragement and her passion to see them succeed in learning and in life.

The foundation of her life was her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served. She delighted in her family and encouraged them in their individual walk with Him. Those who come behind her and find her faithful are her
two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Stuart Baliles of Charlotte, NC and Paula and Gary Walter of Virginia Beach, VA, a daughter Jannet (Penny) Greer of Clinton, SC, and a son, Lloyd Barton (Bart) Greer, III and daughter-in-law Kathy Greer, of Valdosta. She is survived, also, by eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a very special friend and caregiver, Sarah Lloyd, of Valdosta. Mrs. Greer was
predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Barton Greer, Jr. and her brother, Richard Young Whitaker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 21, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. Reverend Jerry Long and Reverend Stuart Baliles will officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Langdale Hospice House Library Fund, P. O.
