Philip Edgar Hiers

Philip Edgar Hiers, 84, of Valdosta died Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Fellowship Home. He was born on April 16, 1925 in Jennings, Florida to the late Philip Edgar, Sr. and Fannie Ophelia Alderman Hiers and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Hiers was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church and retired from Southern Bell. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in World War II and on the UDT #3. Mr. Hiers enjoyed working on his farm during his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Hiers, children and their spouses, Phyllis and Freddy Killgore, Janet and Bo Blalock, David and Julie Hiers all of Valdosta, five grandchildren, Will (Maggie) Killgore, Leigh Ellen (Lee) Marshall, Mary Carol (Jason) Perry, Buck Blalock, Brian (Lori) Hiers, great grandson, Bo Perry, brother and sister in law, L. S. (Shorty) and Martha Hiers of Valdosta, two sisters, Evelyn Henry of Valdosta and Helen Matthews of Jacksonville, Fla., numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Hiers, Kenneth Hiers and Cleon Hiers and four sisters, Mazie Connett, Alma Franza, Kathryn Arnold and Ella Mae Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Sunday November 8, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Beasley officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
