Peggy Passmore Wilkes

August 13, 1952 — March 31, 2017

Peggy Louise Passmore Wilkes, 64, of Valdosta, passed away on Friday March 31, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on August 13, 1952, in Hahira, Georgia, to the late Robert Alexander (Bobby) Passmore and Louise Griffin Passmore. Peggy's husband of 45 years is Terry Thompson Wilkes of Valdosta.
Peggy graduated from Lowndes High School where she was an Honor Graduate, played on the Vikettes basketball team, and was a member and twirler in the Lowndes High Marching Band. She received a B.S. and a Master's in Mathematics Education, a Master's in Counseling and Guidance, and an Ed. S. in Educational Leadership.
Two areas where Peggy proudly served were in education and in her church. She was an educator in the Valdosta City Schools and the Lowndes County Schools, teaching secondary mathematics and serving at Lowndes High School as a guidance counselor.
Peggy was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, played handbells, acted in God Hath Provided the Lamb/The Promise for many years, sewed costumes for productions, and served for several years on the church office staff.
Peggy gave love and energy to her beautiful grandchildren, and she and Terry were Miss P and Mr. T to them. She loved family, spending time at Crescent Beach, and watching NASCAR races with Terry.
She had been a member of the Valdosta Junior Woman's Club and was previously chosen as Woman of the Year.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Terry; son Richard Alexander Wilkes, wife Cari, and grandchildren Alexandria, Jackson, and Harbour Jane of Valdosta; and son Barrett Thompson Wilkes and wife Lindsey of Waverly; brother Robert LaRon Passmore, Sr. and wife Melissa of Hahira; sister Ellice Passmore Martin and husband Philips of Homerville; brother-in-law Charles Arva Wilkes of Valdosta; and sister-in-law Dorothy Passmore of Lake Park.
Her nephews are Brett Martin and wife Traycee of Valdosta, Ron Passmore, Jr. and wife Brandy of Nashville, Dusty Wilkes of Valdosta, and John Herring of Hahira.
Nieces are LeAnne Passmore Cooper and husband Phillip of Newborn, Amanda Passmore Lespinasse and husband Jay of Mansfield, Clare Martin Roath and husband Danny of Atlanta, Tina Passmore Blades and husband Eric of Valdosta, Amber Passmore Gordon and husband Scott of Lake Park, Kim Hammond, and Amanda Cusell and husband Chris, all of Hahira.
Additional surviving family include great nieces and great nephews Matthew and Kayla Passmore; Carlie Passmore; Sam and Mary Clare Martin; John and Luke Roath ; Dylan and Garrett English; Trevor Washington; Haley Simpson; Levi Herring; Logan Blades; Riley and John Ross Gordon; April, Jackson, and Emily Passmore; Katie Passmore Culpepper.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Wallace Passmore of Lake Park, and her nephew Ray Passmore.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Hale Bishop and Rev. David Tart officiating.
