Obituary for Peggy Kate Phillips Gerbrick

Peggy Kate Phillips Gerbrick died March 10, 2007 at Glenn-Mor Nursing Home in Thomasville, Georgia. She was born March 21, 1911 to the late James and Ninone Phillips in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, Great Britain and grew up in her beloved Malvern Hills. She was married in Great Britain in 1944 to Lt. Colonel Russell H. Gerbrick (U.S. Army) of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, who predeceased her in 1989. She was the last surviving sibling in her family of four brothers and three sisters.

During WWII Peggy served her country in Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps where she met her dear husband. After the war, Mrs. Gerbrick lovingly cared for her family, living in Heidelberg, Germany until 1958 when she moved with her family to Las Cruces, New Mexico and a year later made a home in Huntsville, Alabama. After her husband’s retirement in 1970 she lived with him in Great Britain and Valdosta, Georgia. After his death she moved to Lake Park, Georgia. Peggy spent the last ten years of her life at Westminster Oaks Retirement Community in Tallahassee, Florida coming to Thomasville in December, 2006.

Peggy is survived by her daughter Carol and son-in-law Ross Jones of Thomasville; special friends, Wallace and Debbie Goodman of Thomasville; two nieces, Gaydon Phillips of New York City and Brighton, England; Pamela Lloyd of Laurens, New York; a nephew David Lloyd of Wales and Zambia, several great nieces and nephews; and many other dear friends around the world.

Friends and family will be contacted regarding memorial arrangements. Mrs. Gerbrick was an ardent animal lover; the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Thomasville-Thomas County Humane Society, 180 Big Star Drive, Thomasville, GA 31757.
