Paul H. Gillespie

March 17, 1955 — October 28, 2020

Our loving husband, father and grandfather peacefully crossed over Jordan to be at rest in the care of our Lord on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 with his wife and children at his side.

He was born March 17, 1955 in Plant City, Florida, the third child of William Belmont Gillespie and Iris Eleanor (Boyette) Gillespie. For the most part, he lived a full and active life during his 65 years until succumbing to illness. At a young age, he participated in horse racing as an amateur jockey but did not pursue it because he wanted to be with his family rather than traveling. Family was his greatest love. His passions were hunting, fishing, horses, the sport of racing and classic cars, his favorite being Ford Mustangs.

A man of strength, character and firm principles, he dedicated himself to hard work. Eventually he pursued his goal of opening a truck repair shop for semi-trucks and trailers in Plant City, FL. In 2001, he relocated and built an eight bay shop, which he owned and operated as Gillespie's Truck Service & Sales off of Perimeter Rd at 5763 Hunt Rd, Valdosta, GA until his retirement in 2017.

He is survived by wife, Cynthia Gillespie, children Paula Finley and Gary Gillespie, grandchildren Cody Finley, Colton Finley, Gracie Gillespie and Garysson Gillespie, brother Karl Gillespie and sisters Diann Gillespie and Shellie Gillespie.

Now in the Presence of God, he is no longer restrained by suffering and immobility but soars as freely as he chooses without pain. He lives on through his beautiful children and grandchildren and will forever be present in our memories and our hearts.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Lake Park with Pastor Robert Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends and visitors prior to the service from 10-11am followed by a service to honor Paul's life. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
