Paul Franklin Eye

December 3, 1954 — April 5, 2014

Paul Franklin Eye, 59, beloved husband, father, son and brother passed this life Saturday, April 5th. He succumbed to a long illness surrounded by his family at home.
Paul was born to Frank Eldon and Mary Judson Lilly Eye on December 3, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo. He was the middle of five children. Paul attended many different schools through-out the country and was a 1974 VHS graduate. He graduated from Valdosta Technical College and achieved and maintained his ASE Master Diesel Mechanic certification. He prided himself in the ability to repair what others could not. He worked for a variety of shops before injuries forced his retirement.
Paul's real passions in life were his family, music, and helping others through AA sponsorships. He also reveled in the freedom of riding his Honda Shadow Spirit.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Judson Eye, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Lilly of Valdosta and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Franklin Eye of Kansas City, MO, father-in-law David V. Fender Sr. of Valdosta, and brother-in-law David V. Fender Jr., of South Boston, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Bremah Fender Eye, daughter Sally Eye Griffin (Chris) of Valdosta, son Pehn Fender (Tracy) of Lakeland, Florida, granddaughters Kristen and Kelsey Griffin of Valdosta, and grandson Patrick Fender of Lakeland, Florida.
He is also survived by his father, Frank Eldon Eye of Valdosta, mother-in-law Claudette Peck Fender, brother John J. Eye of Brunswick, sisters Mary H. Kliem (John) of Bessemer, PA, Susan Wheeler (Jim) of Valdosta, and Margaret E. Fender (Henry) of Lake Park, brother-in-law Peter P. Fender (Debbie), sister-in-law Sandy Lowery (Ronnie) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Paul and his wife Sally officially met at the wedding of his sister to her brother. Paul, the groomsman, was disappointed he was not paired with Sally, the bridesmaid. He decided to rectify the situation by asking her for a date. They were happily married in October 18, 1980 and enjoyed many more outings. Once their children had grown, they enjoyed riding on Paul's motorcycle and restoring their house together. They also loved collecting antique furniture and Paul especially enjoyed collecting vintage guitars. Paul Kossoff, Led Zeppelin, Popa Chubby, and the Beatles were some of his favorite artists. He enjoyed sharing his recordings with the neighborhood as he usually played music while repairing engines. Paul had a real affinity for the 1960's and 1970's and was generally regarded as an old hippie by friends and family.
Services for Mr. Eye will be held Thursday, April 10th 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carson McLane Chapel with the Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta.
