Patricia Williams Futch
Patricia (Pat) Williams Futch, of Lake Park, Georgia, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, May 24, at Carson-McLane Funeral Home, 2215 North Patterson, in Valdosta. Dr. Clyde Stokes will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Patricia was the wife of the late Sheriff Jewell Little Futch of Lowndes County, Georgia, her home for many years. She was the daughter of the late James Wilburn Williams and Ethel Rackley Williams of Mitchell County.
Patricia was a graduate of Mitchell County High School where she began her passion for basketball as a player on the high school team. She continued playing at Berry College in Atlanta, where she was an MVP. Upon leaving Berry, she played for 4 years on the semipro basketball team, the Atlanta Tomboys, as well as on the State team. Patricia maintained her lifelong interest in the sport, following college basketball, particularly cheering on the Duke University Blue Devils.
Patricia loved to travel, and she combined that interest with her patriotism to her country as a reservist in the U.S. Naval Air Force.
She lived for many years in Atlanta, working at the State Capitol under Governor Marvin Griffin, and for two Lieutenant Governors, Garvin Byrd and George T. Smith. Later, she was personal secretary for Speaker of the House, George T. Smith. Pat actively worked in the South Georgia district campaign to elect Governor Carl Sanders.
Patricia's next career was supervisor and manager of the Georgia Department of Labor in Valdosta, Americus, and Albany offices. At the time of her retirement, she was District Manager of Employment Security of the Field Department.
Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, Jewell, and several brothers and sisters: Elwood Williams, Theodore Williams, Kay Williams, Schuyler Williams, Lyra Williams Beall all of Mitchell County; Fenton Williams of Dawson; Lou Williams Slocumb of Marietta, Betty Williams Kinnebrew of Daytona, Florida; Virginia Sentz and Helen Stanton of Virginia.
She is survived by a brother, Vance Williams, of Mitchell County, two sisters, Elizabeth Walker of Jacksonville, Florida, and Vernice Harvey of Austell, Georgia; step-grandchildren, Brooks (Jackie) Futch and great-granddaughter, Hannah, of Florida; Pearce, Leigh, and Jamie Futch of Lake Park, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pallbearers will be great nephews and grandson which include, William Waldron, Wade Waldron of Cairo, GA, Wesley Willis, Evan Willis of Pine Mountain, GA, Schuyler Williams of Orlando, FL, Brooks Futch of Florida.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the special care extended by Patricia by the Staff of Agape Rehab Center of Moultrie and Bethany Hospice and Sally Thompson for her medical advice, also to her nieces, Pamela Waldron, Anne Smith, Linda Light, Lucy Gardner and Karlia Willis who helped care for her during her nine month illness caused by her stroke.
